Treating an animal that's been wounded by a gunshot?

Question:
I found a full blooded chocolate lab.. he has an entry wound but no exit wound.. He appears to be in just a little pain.. I cleaned the wound with peroxide and put antibiotic cream on it.. I have no clue whose dog it is.. I really don't have the extra income to take him to be treated. I'm a nurse, but I deal with humans and I'm not sure if it's basically the same thing.. I also gave him bufferin aspirin for any pain.. Any advise would be appreciated, especially if you have vet experience..

Answers:
I had a dog that got shot once. And lived. But she had professional health care.
You didn't say where the wound is... That's a big point.
So, depending on where it is, it may or may not have damaged organs...
Our dog, a Black Lab, was shot through the right side, went through her right lung and stopped just short of coming out the left. We knew where the bullet was.
HOWEVER, you don't. It could be what's keeping the bleeding down. You know, like how you never remove an object that's deep, you stabilize it and go to the ER.
AND, never give a dog Aspirin. It destroys the stomach lining,
PLUS, aspirin is a BLOOD THINNER. And the dog's been shot.
Bite the proverbial bullet, take the dog in... Tell the vet it isn't your's. Chances our, they'll take care of it and you've done a good dead. They won't expect you to pay.
AND, keep it warm in the mean time.
