I think its from gasping for breathes. Ur "side" is using lots of energy so its sending a message 2 ur brain to stop doing what it is that is causing it pain

It is called a "side stitch" and there really is no concrete explanation for it. It says in this article from ACE (American Council on Exercise) that it may be a jarring of ligaments between the stomach and diaphragm.

If you mean a cramp, it's a buildup of lactic acid. I learned about it in biology... can't remember all the details exactly. It happens because you're not getting enough oxygen, so your body has to resort to anerobic respiration instead of aerobic respiration. Lactic acid is sort of a byproduct of anerobic respiration, which is making energy without the use of oxygen.
