is it possible for your sternum to bend inwards without braking ? I'm worried maybe I bent it or something, I'm not sure
I'm 15, about 5'7 and 165 lbs.
Answers:
It is almost impossible for your sternum to bend inwards without breaking, especially without an impact trauma. This is a very strong bone that is meant to protect your heart and lungs.
You may have what is called 'chostochondritis'. This is an inflammation of the joint of the rib that attaches to the sternum. These ribs are attached by ligaments to the sternum to allow the lung cage to expand and contract as you breathe.
Sometimes, from overuse, you can aggravate this joint, just like any other joint of your body and cause inflammation. Of course, a diagnosis can only be made through a physical exam by your doctor or physician assistant.
To fix costochondritis, you need to relax on the upper body workout and try some over the counter anti inflammatory drugs, if you are not allergic to these medications. Take as directed in the bottle.
This may be re-aggravated over time, but is usually self limiting.
