Why does this happen?

Question:
some call it muscel cramps some call it a charlie horse. its when u get really really bad pain. this morning i stretched when i was laying bed and next thing my leg is killing me. my first reaction was rubbing it. felt like there was a knot under my skin that slowly went away. same for the pain. then i tried to go back to sleep since i had a hour left before i had to get up. when i got out of bed i was limping at first. and it hurt a little. not nearly as bad as when it happened. its fine now. little pain here and there. no limping though.

Answers:
because you just woke up, so have your muscles, when you put too much stress on them they might cramp up on you just flex your all of your toes and the pain should go away
can be due to low potassium- check your diet- do you eat a well balanced diet with fruits, veggies, etc.
Muscle cramps occur because of accumulated lactic acid in the muscle. It usually happens after an exercise. Your muscles burn sugar but not completely, they are stuck at the anaerobic stage of glucose breakdown. The end product of anaerobic glycolysis (glucose breakdown) is lactic acid. Rest usually relieves people from this.
Try getting a cylinder of any kind(a can, bottle, etc) and rub it against your feet whale standing up or siting down! Not to long or you'll get sore! You could do some worm up squats or jumping jacks! To reduce the tension of your muscles before the cramp happens! It will probably prevent it most of the time if not all! See a doctor about it as soon as possible! My dad has low potassium!
