Supporters of Universal Health Care, what are your views on legalized narcotics?
Question:
Just curious, are you for legalizing the use of the poisons are addicts of the country ingest.
Throught my life I have watched my family and childhood friends destroyed by drugs. I left and joined the navy when i got sick of it. I am now a D.A.R.E. instructor as well as a member of the service. So i have seen the phyical and emotional harm drugs cause.
Hearing that people want to legalize pot will never stop. But some people want to legalize everything. If that were to happen, and we were to adopt some kind of universal healthcare would be mutually exclusive and counter productive goals.
What are some of the Ya thoughts on this.
Answers:
The legalization of now illegal 'street drugs' would go a long way toward addresses some of society's most vexing ills. The "value" of these drugs would immediately plummet. The real crimes associated with drug use (e.g., murders) would no longer be an issue (no need to kill rival drug gang members anymore).
The allure to teens would sharply decline (where's the thrill in doing something LEGAL?). The prison overcrowding problem would virtually disappear overnight. Law enforcement officials would be freed up to focus resources where they are REALLY needed: crimes WITH VICTIMS.
Drug use/selling is a victimless "crime", and therefore should not be a "crime" at all. Criminalizing stupidity (yes, I think using drugs is moronic) only serves to fuel the problem and pad the pockets of DEA workers (and other government employees).
