Do you mean Seaver's Disease? How old are you?
Is it better or worse when you're on tiptoe? Does it hurt when you squeeze both sides near the back of the heel? If so, it could be Seaver's.
If so, you need to take a break from gymnastics for a bit (from 2 weeks to 2 months, depending). Ice it three times a day for 20 minutes at a time (not longer!). stretches as shown on the webpage below will strengthen muscles and stretch tendons so it will be less likely to happen again.
Another thing it could be is Plantar Fasciitis. If it is worse first thing in the morning, or when you've been off your feet for a while, this is probably what it is. Again, stretching helps.
For either of these, regular pain killer should help too. Advil or Motrin or even Tylenol. Also, both will be helped by orthotics. Those are specially made insoles for your shoes to help support your feet and keep them healthy and happy :)
Neither will affect your career, but with Seaver's you do need to take time off till it doesn't hurt AT ALL anymore.
Good luck and happy tumbling!
check out www.webmd.com you can enter your symptoms to check diagnosis or you can look up information on a specific disease and its treatment.
Good Luck!
Are you cutting your landings short? landing on your heels can cause pain in them for a quite a while. I would look at your gymnastics first then worry if it is a disease.
Severs disease is what you mean - this is corrected with properly fitted footwear.
I think you mean Severs disease...which is inflammation of the growth plate where the Achilles tendon attaches at the back of the heel. What you can do to help this is to stretch you calf muscle before and after doing gymnastics and least once a day when you do not do gymnastics. Also you need to be icing the heel down after doing anything active...especially gymnastics. The best way to ice this is to fill a paper cup with water, freeze it, then peel part of the cup to expose some ice and then rub the ice on the area that hurts for 4-5 mins. You will have to push through some painful sensations but you NEED to get it numb to be effective. If this doesn't take care of the problem then you should have your parent take you to see an orthopedic doctor and get a referral for physical therapy.
