Why do you cough when you put a q-tip within your ear while cleaning it?

My daughter asked me this question, after cleaning out her ears, beside a q-tip. She says, "I chew over your eardrum is connected with your raucous cords, because you have to hear yourself". I own inserted a q-tip, too far, and know what she is talking roughly speaking.

Answers:    Because it irritates your ear drum and Eustachian tubes. Those tubes runs down toward you throat.
