Constant Calf Pain?

Question:
I have been having since February almost constant calf pain in my left leg. I had an ultrasound done to rule out a blood clot, an MRI done to rule out torn muscle and just yesterday had an EMG to check for possible nerve problems.

The pain I have been having is almost like a dull ache or sharp stab right on the side my calf muscle, sometimes it feels like it just getting ready to cramp up. Any suggestions?

Answers:
From what you are saying, all the tests have been done but the patency of your arteries. The ultrasound you mentioned only tests patency of the veins. You might want to mention to your doctor the ABI, the Ankle-Brachial Index test. It compares the blood pressures between you ankles and the arms. The ankle pressures should be equal to or greater than your brachial pressure. If it is lower than 0.8, you may be suffering from intermittent claudication. 0.25 or below indicates limb-threatening peripheral arterial disease (PAD)Needless to say, lower than "one" signifies arterial pathology. Hope this helps.
maybe it's a shin splint? try an ex ray and a CAT scan.
You are low on Potassium so get either some Potassium supplements or eat a banana every day. They are high in Potassium. Worked wonders for me. Sometimes it's the simplest things that will fix you up. Doctors just love you. You are a cash cow to them. Quit letting them try all these expensive tests on you.
It sounds like to me a pinched nerve. Ask your Dr. about the possibility.
It is important to
1. Be hydrated on a cellular level (drink alot, daily)
2. Have enough vitamins and minerals in your diet.
3. Keep stress down (you can be holding stress in your calf! It's not just reserved for headaches)
4. Stretch often.

Drink orange juice every morning and one small bit in the afternoon also, lots of water, take time for yourself and keep moving and stretching... you have lactic acid and stored stress there that needs to be released.
OR a massage with lots of water before and after could really help also.

Good luck to you!
ps. I am a massage therapist and yoga therapist. Your complaint is common for built up stress.
Do you have ashtma and take meds for it? If so check my profile and email me I can give some info on your problem.
Have you asked about "restless leg syndrome?" On TV, they advertise Requim for leg pain. Does it ever feel like creepy crawlies, or pins and needles ? Stabbing can also be a symptom. I hope this helps you. Good luck! Otherwise , try Aleve (generic OK.) :)
