Answers:
1. when should I consider going to the emergancy room with the pain ?
A: When you can no longer carry on a conversation without screaming and moaning.
2. does anyone know of any thing to relive the pain ?
A: Toradol, demerol, Morphine, Vicodin. etc,
3. has any one had the stone retival surgery?
Yes. My stone got stuck 3/4 of the way down the ureter. They knock me out and went in with a lazer and zapped it. Then they scooped the fragments into a basket and pulled them out. I went home two hours later.
Why go through anything 5 times. If you have that many stones you need to get them out of there.
You go to the ER when the pain is so bad that you can't take it any more. Or are uncontrollably vomiting.
The pain can be relieved by narcotics - unfortunately you have to see a doctor for a prescription.
Stone retrieval only works if your stone is small enough to be taken through your ureter without damaging it. If it is bigger than that then lithotripsy is the way to go.
Drink plenty of fluids to help wash the stones out, and if it keeps hurting see a doctor - if it occludes the ureter it can permanently damage the kidney because of the urine backing up.
If you start running a temperature see a doctor right away - you may be infected in the kidney behind the stone
Plenty of water will help for the pain.
Most kidney stones are caused by too much acidity so an alkaline diet will very gradually dissolve such stones but this takes a long time.
