I have had six separate surgeries where tissue was taken from the roof of my mouth and grafted onto my gums (gingival grafts). My periodontist advised me to rinse with warm salt water for discomfort and to promote healing.
There is also a mouthrinse called Peridex that is very helpful (http://www.healthsquare.com/newrx/per132... but this is prescription-only medication.
I know, it hurts. If the cut is particularly wide or deep, you may want to ask your dentist to evaluate it and make suggestions.
buy some peroxyl mouth wash or use listerine.the listerine will probably help the most because that what people use to get their tongues to heal with a tongue ring. Good luck.
drink cold water or put ice on it, or better yet ICE CREAM!
just not warm water or anything hot b/c it will soften the top of your mouth and it will be harder for it to heal.

Whenever I get a cut in my mouth, I just do my best to keep in clean... Swish around salt water or mouthwash... This helps to keep it from getting infected so it can heal faster. Try to avoid irritating it too.. Be super careful when brushing your teeth and eating other foods. You might be able to get some numbing cream from the store to take away some of the discomfort if it is really bothering you. I'd just look around the area with canker sore meds and things like that. Mouth wounds heal faster than any other wounds though, so hopefully the pain is gone soon.
If you put anbesol on it it will numb it. Also it is an anesthetic. That will clean it and heal it faster. If you don't have this and can't get out then rinse your mouth out with salt water at least 3 times a day. Especially just before bed. The salt will linger in your mouth and help to heal it.
I hate when things do that to ya. The pain in unreal. Hope this helps.
