Ive been told that if you stay up for 3 days straight with no sleep you will hallucinate is this true?

Question:
i heard that you start to starve your mind of sleep and you will then hullicinate. is there any truth to this.

Answers:
I don't know about the 'starving your mind' part. But studies have been done in sleep deprivation that indicate a possibility of hallucinations. Certainly a tired mind is not going to be able to sort information very well- which is why members of the armed forces have to undergo special training so they can continue operating under such conditions.
everyone's different, but it's definitely possible.
Yep.I tend to laugh histerically after about 2 nights. Your mind needs rest!! Without rest your mind goes crazy and makes you think you are seeing what really isnt there!!
it takes about 5 days for me

at least it used to
Yes, that may be true for some people. If I stay up for one whole day, I will just laugh hysterically at everything that happens. If I stay up for two days, I start to get very crabby, and laugh at everything for no reason. I have not tried to stay up for three days straight though. It must do bad things to your mind.
Yeah, it's totally true. I stayed up for about 30 hours once and I hallucinated that I fell asleep.
