How much sleep does one need? Adults.?

Question:
How long do you sleep?
Do you sleep all the way through the night?

I can be beat tired and go to bed at 9pm, wake up an hour later feeling great, then up for about 4hrs, till I get tired again, go back to bed, and wake up at 6am. Then start the my day.

What the heck is going on? I am in my early 40's. This just started about 8 months ago.
Anyone else experiencing this?
I am not being disturbed when I sleep, I just wake up.
I just want to sleep straight through the night without waking up.

they say the average adult needs 7-8 hours a night,, i find as im getting older, i need less. i have the same problem as you, i go to bed, wake up, i go to bed around 11, wake up at 2 or 3 and i am up for the duration, i cant sleep, i dont know what the problem is, and believe me, it can get to be a problem!!, mine has been going on for at least a mo. but it started slowly, a long time ago, about the last 7 years or so.and just seems to be getting worse!! i hope you find a solutin, if you do please let me know.. i need a good nights sleep, where i can sleep longer than a few hours. GOOD LUCK!
I am only 27 and i wake up 3 or more times a night. I have problems sleeping that just started 3 months ago. Its no fun.. some nights i dont sleep at all. so be lucky you are sleeping.haha. You could some herbal supplements to help you with a deeper sleep like valerian root or melatonin. good luck.
I onIy had trouble falling asleep but now I use a product called Sleep Advantage. I have never experience what you do and that must be awful, but I talk to people everyday that do and have. Check out some natural supplements either melatonin or sleep advantage. Here is a great website. www.hfn-usa.com
So long as u r comfortable with the present regime of sleep, why bother.

Eat only when hungry and not more than thrice a day. Nothing other than water in between. Include plenty of uncooked vegetables and fruits in each meal, preferably 50%. Chew each morsel at least 32 times to activate ur body to generate signals of hunger/fullness. Obey these signals.

Take light exercises and brisk walks regularly preferably twice a day.

U will achieve what u have not even dreamt and that too in a reasonable time. Do not be in a hurry.
I'm drop dead tired at 10 pm but wake up frequently and am up for the day around 5:30 am. I asked a friend of mine who is an LPN and she said she thought it may be Hormonal changes.
