May have a sprained ankle, any tips?

Question:
So first of all, I'm not even sure if it's sprained.

I was playing badmitton last night and I rain for the birdie and did a twisting move and hit it. When I turned it seems like my body turned and my knee kind of did but my ankle stayed in place. I heard about 2-3 popping noises (I guess my knee and ankle since they both hurt a lot)
It was at my friends party so I didn't want to make a big deal out of it so I didn't ice it and kind of walked on it. I tried to sit down whenever I could and keep the pressure off of it but I don't know if I made it worse.
I need to use it on the 14th (with today being the 20th) but if I shouldn't (in case I make it worse) I only have until the 20th (about a week) to let it heal.

I don't know if I should go to a hospital or if there is some other way to treat it.
I also don't have an ACE bandage at the moment, but if I need one I can get it.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Answers:
i would try the RICE method first (REST ICE COMPRESSION ELEVATION). And if it doesnt get better by tmorrow go to the doctor or hospital.

I do this as i am a Goalkeeper and have had many finger sprains and breaks.
If you heard popping noises it sounds like something is dislocated. If there is any swelling/discoloration you should go to a doctor, in the meantime ice it and stay off it at much as possible. Keep it elevated as well. Good luck.
ok put it up 4 a whle day dont walk on it at all unless u really ave to like to use the restroom or sumthing like that
put ice on it in hour intervals i hour ice 1 hour no ice and every time u have to put ice on it use new ice preferably ce pack with paper towel wraped around it
then for the next few days just minimize the walking but wrape it with an ace bandage!!1

hope this helps same happend to me when at gym and that is wut personal trainer said 2 do do!!!
use the R.I.C.E method.

R- rest. try to stay off of it as much as possible. and using an ace bandage helps. make sure you wrap it with your foot and leg making a 90 degree angle.

I- ice. use ice packs that go in the freezer or even bagees full of ice cubes. this helps the inflamation.

C- compression. this is where the ace bandage comes in!

E- elevate. when you go to sleep, watch tv, eat or as much as possible, lift it. whether its on pillows or another chair, it helps.

hope this helps you and hope you feel better
Definitely use the RICE method. Also, if you heard some popping, it could mean torn ligaments. If you don't see improvement in a few days, definitely get it checked by a doctor..
You definitely need to see a doctor and get a referral for MRI for your ankle and knee. I heard a popping noise in my knee when I fell up stairs(yeah I'd had a few beers!). I am now recovering from surgery that repaired my anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus. X-ray will not show ligament or tendon damage.
In the interim rest, ice, compression bandage and elevation.
Good luck, you have my empathy.
