It can be. It is not as good as vicodin and other opiod based medications but it can be used for that purpose. I would not recomend it though from what I understand medical proffesionals are starting to find out that it can be physically addictive.
I suppose someone is somewere. However, I have taken it for my cronic migraines in the past and I didn't feel anything from it other than a reduction in pain. It is addictive as well. I wouldn't recomend taking it recreationally or any drug for that matter. You never know what kind of damage you would be doing to your body.
