Answers:
PT (physical therapy) is the best help for knots. Two times a week they might suggest for visits. Probably a few months of therapy. It works wonders, however it can get expensive. Your doc can prescribe a muscle relaxer, this will work pretty well. However, unless you find the root of your problem (incorrect workout, too much stress in life) you are only treating the problem not solving it.
A few other ideas are ibuprofen (Advil) or massage by a friend/family member/love one or at a spa. You should find out why you are getting them and try and solve the actual problem! :) Usually stress is to blame- take time to relax if you are stressed. Meditate, dance, sports, tv, whatever. If it is sports or workout related, get a trainer for a few visits and they can see what you are doing wrong. Best of luck.
I can't help you with the information you have given. The lower right and left side of what? Your back, the back of your back, the ribcage? It sounds like just muscle tension, but I can't really be sure.
