the cuts seem to be splitting further open..how can i fix it? i start cross country tomorrow!! thanks for your help.
Answers:
In boot camp they made us wear two pairs of socks. One thin pair made of polypropylene as the first pair (dress socks), and the outside pair was a thicker sock for cushion. A little baby powder will help as well.
This helps more than anything.
smear polysporin, and let it air as much as possible, like when sitting on the couch and such
get that spray band aid stuff and use an antibacterial ointment
Keep it clean and covered and watch for signs of infection. If the area begins to have a pus discharge or if the area becomes hotter that the rest of your body you may have to see a doctor.
You should most probably cancel that cross country now and allow the wound to close up and heal properly before attempting anymore such strenuous activities that place strain on the wound. With all wounds, you need to rest the area well and allow it time to heal on its own. Because it's near your toes, it's easy to add pressure on it, causing the still-healing wound to split open again. Try keeping it supple with regular antiseptic cream. Wear a sock over it if you can in place of a bandaide, since bandaides won't stick in such a tricky spot anyhow. Do remember to wash the sock everyday, as it sounds like your wound is still weeping...any fluid from the wound on your sock is an excellent ground for baterial growth.
In the meantime, rest the area as much as you can.
best not to do the cross country thing right now -i used to be an avid runner -and i actually missed a couple of track meets when i was in high school -due to bad cut on the foot -and it paid off-i use c couple of heavy gauze pads with triple antibiotic -and kept it wrapped up in a bandage -it healed up in no time -
---i used to run 15 miles a day
