Try Benadryl...one tablet or maybe even half to start off. I have heard that a lot of parents of younger children use Benadryl as a sleep aid because it is much safer than a lot of prescription drugs or other sleep aids. From what I read on one forum, it actually improved one child's ability to function at school.
You could also try Melatonin--which is all natural and safe from side affects.
Try to get him in a specific bedtime routine--same time and same pattern every night. Make sure he has everything prepared for school the next day so that he isn't worrying about homework or getting something signed or remembering to put something in his backpack, etc. Limit the snacks close to bedtime, and especially caffeine after dinner.
Good luck to you and your son.
How about you lay off the meds all together... He is freaken nine years old... how the hell can he have adhd?! take him off the meds and practice better parenting, and im sure he will sleep like a baby.
I don't know of any medications, however the least I can do is tell you how I deal with my own insomnia (when I can't sleep). I run my wrists in cold water for a while and then lay my left wrist level to my head. Eventually my wrists will begin to feel warm and sleep takes me from there.
I'm 16 and working. my job needs me to wake up early so i need to get my sleep. try lavender it's smell is very calming try giving him a bath around two to three hours before bed and also try not to let him eat three hours before bed cause your body will still be digesting food.
good luck
