What happens when you break your femur and knee?

Question:
What kind of cast do you get and do you get cast do you get and do you use crutches or a wheelchair. also how long is the cast on for, and do you have to use crutches after the cast is off

Answers:
you will probably get a long cast from the femur to the foot. It is all according to how bad the break is and what the doctor used to repair the fracture. You will use crutches and this also depends on how the fracture was repaired. You will probably be put in a walking boot after the cast and will need crutches also.
I think it is a brace.
you can use a crutch or wheel chair
depends on how fast you want to get better
yes you have to use the crutches for a little while
My friend did this when he was 15 or 16. Full leg cast, from thigh to ankle for about 5 months. I think he could walk from day 1.

You lose a lot of strength in 5 months, up to 25% or more. If the person is athletic, they may not need crutches, but may need a cane for a couple weeks. Muscles around the knee will be very much weakened from lack of movement. Muscle rehab and stretching will be in order.
