I have Fibromyalgia and went to the doc Tuesday. I asked him?
Question:
So the doc said that everyone has pain and has to keep working. He said it hurts him to rise up from a chair. (like that helps me)
Anyway, Isn't there a difference between Fibromyalgia pain and the pain he's thinking of. Am I being unreasonable or is my doc being a hard nose?
I stand at work an suffer! And don't suggest sitting, because I stand better than I sit or walk!
Answers:
I have great empathy for you. But your doctor is certainly not very supportive of you.
You need to be reassessed by a doctor who has some understanding the complexities of Fibromyalgia.
A rheumatologist would be a good start, as they know what the best medications are on the market, where you can still function with out the side effects of feeling overhung. He/she may also suggest some other options which may help you.
Are you able to attend a pain management clinic. I found the pain management clinc I attended was, very helpful.
I have Fibromyalgia & Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and I only take the stronger pain medication at night, and take paracetamol every 6 hours to get through the day, when working. The pain management clinic suggested the 6 hourly paracetamol, my doctor said it was fine, as long as I don't do it every day.
I am lucky enough that I don't have to work full time, but I certainly do struggle to make it to work, and attend my partime studies. When I am working or attending classes I have to keep moving around or I'd go nuts, thankfully my employer & leactures are supportive.
I take Neurontin at night even though I am supposed to take it 3 times a day, I don't think I would ever leave the house if I did take it 3 times a day. I also take Stilnox to help with sleep, I will take this if I have to work the next day, in hope of getting some sort of sleep, as well as having some sort of brain power the next day.
I am going to ask about Lyrica tomorrow, but I have major drug, food & chemical allergies, so my doctor maybe a little wary trying something else.
Take care good luck
If you wish you can send me an emial via yahoo
Yes, a lot of people work even though they're in pain, and some people can't work because they're in pain. I don't know you or your capacity for pain. Sounds like your doctor isn't very understanding though. What type of doc are you seeing. Perhaps a specialist who deals with fibro? Being on pain pills and muscle relaxers (what types?) while at work, much less while driving back and forth, can get you in trouble depending on your company's policies. If they are narcotics and you are driving that is considered DUI (even if it's prescribed.)
i have a friend at work who has fibromyalgia. she works every day we work in a nursing home where there is lots of walking.she hurts.there is a new drug called lyrica ask your doctor about it .i know having wide spread muscle pain is hard to deal with . you need to to try to keep working lyrica can help relieve the pain and improve function talk to your doctor about lyrica therapy it might help you good luck
