Incredible toe pain what causing it?

Question:
my big toe has a lot of pain primarily underneath the nail, what can cause that?

Answers:
i can tell you this, it is most likely not gout. my dad has had gout and his whole foot was so swollen, he couldn't put socks on. I'm guessing it's an ingrown toenail, but don't take my word. if it's not better in a week or so, go to the doctor.
sounds like an ingrown toenail. Is the skin on the sides of your toe swollen at all?
Ingrown toe nail or Gout maybe?
