Which type of doctor to see for shoulder injury?

Question:
I don't know who to go see? Physiotherapist, Sports Medicine, Orthopedic?
The pain doesn't effect me during daily routine but appears when I am at the gym. I am only running at about 40% strength and its been like this for maybe 6/7months.

Answers:
See the orthopedic first then go see a physio to work on the strength of your rotator cuff muscles.
I would recommend either a Sports Medicine Specialist or an Orthopedic Doc. But, before you decide, have you had the shoulder evaluated by your primary Doc?? It could just be tendinitis that you regular Doc can treat. In the meantime, apply ice to the area but, put the ice on a small towel or a pillowcase, not directly on the skin. You should do this, at least 3-4 times a day for 15-20 mins. Have you tried taking Motrin/Advil ( Ibuprofen )?? Any recent injury that caused this?? I hope that this helps.
When my daughter injured her shoulder (not her rotator cuff, thank God) I took her to a sports medicine specialist.

A physiotherapist, if I understand correctly, treats conditions after they are diagnosed. An orthopedist treats musculoskeletal conditions; your condition may be merely muscles/tendons/ligaments.

If it's been over 6 months, it's time! Please see a doctor.
I would suggest probably an orthopedic doctor or a sports medicine doctor, but the best suggestion would be to visit your family doctor and get a referral to another good doctor to help with your shoulder.
