Is it possible to be stressed to the point of physical pain?

~*I spent two days a week for eight months in my doctor's office telling him I was dying of a heart attack. I had constant horrible pain in my back, chest, arms and neck. He kept telling me that it was just stress; I was perfectly healthy and it would clear up as soon as the stress did. It took me eight months to believe him. He finally gave me a muscle relaxant and all the pain disappeared within an hour! That's how I knew he was right. Extreme stress was causing all of my horrible pain. I had such a hard time believing that something mental/emotional could cause such a strong physical response, but I was proved terribly wrong! Stress wreaks unbelievable amounts of havoc on your physical health.
Here's an article I found for you. Hope it helps!:
Whatever the source of stress, the effect on pain is usually to intensify it. Some people respond to chronic stress with excessive or prolonged activation of body systems. This in turn can create additional stress-related physical problems including headaches, muscle aches and pains, elevated blood pressure, upset stomach, bowel problems, etc. Chronic anger and irritability, or anxiety and worry can make you feel constantly on edge. Others respond to chronic stress with physical deactivation and loss of energy. They become depressed and listless, with little motivation or interest. Whether you respond to stress with excessive physical and emotional activation or deactivation and depression, the result in most cases is increased pain and suffering.
As a result of this important connection between pain and stress, we place a lot of emphasis on learning how to either minimize or cope better with stress and tension. Although you may not be able to completely rid yourself of pain, you can have a significant influence on your pain by learning how to better manage stress in your life.
Yes absolutely!
yes --- talk to a doctor , counsellor or someone! you will only get worse!!
Yes! I had a very stressful job and had all of the above. Get a massage once a week.expensive but soooo worth it! Take care.
Yes.
I would recommend you try a detox - add coral calcium, apple cider vinegar, and active enzymes to your diet in vitamin form.
I would also recommend you find a way to relax - work out, sit quietly in a corner and breath deeply, find a good book that is easy reading and funny - go see a funny movie or watch a funny show. Relaxing and laughing are great to reduce stress.
I'd also read "The Secret" and "don't sweat the small stuff" they are great books that might put thing into perspective for you and reduce the causes of stress.
...and ulcers and high blood pressure. Of course!
Definitely.
If the body is not in balance, you have dis-ease which is disease -- symptoms are the body telling you to slow down, back off, rest, regenerate, reflect, prioritize, hydrate, breath, nourish yourself.
Nourish your body, mind and total package -- most of all try to breath and be focused on 'the now' just to give yourself a break before something breaks.
Good luck --
It's up to you to take care of you -- there is only one you -- don't wait 40 years from now, by then the body has aged and can't repair itself as easily as it can now.
Yeah, sometimes when I'm really nervous before speaking or dancing, I'll have a stomach ache and headaches and sometimes even throw up. It's very possible. But then I take Advil and it all goes away. :P
This is a real sign of depression or anxiouty. I had the same problem. I felt like I was going to throw up, my head hurt, I felt numb, and more. I also cried for little or no reason. It is a very good idea to see a doctor. It can and does get worse. If treated early it can save your career, family and even your life. Please seek up.
Yes stress can cause physical pain. It is amazing how the mind can control the body, especially if you have a good imagination.
But if your mind can make you feel awful, that same mind can make you feel good if it directed in the right way.
