Pain in upper left arm?
Question:

Sounds like it could be connected with your working on the computer most of the day. Does the pain go up the left side of your neck/jaw? I don't want to panic you, but the fact that it has gone on for so long and it's on the left hand side would be enough for me to get it checked out by my GP. Or try NHS direct.
That's probably it, sitting all day staring at a screen. Try stretching your neck and shoulders and arms as much as you can.
agree with Handsome Chuck. Probably muscular try some anti inflammatories like ibuprofen you can get it in a topical gel form to apply directly to affected area. Try massaging the area too to loosen up all the taut soft tissue.
Sounds like you are suffering the onset of a "frozen" shoulder, although sitting at a computer won't help, it can strike anyone in any activity, at any time. Take Cod liver oil, regularly at least 1000 mg per day, and you need strong pain killers, rotate the shoulder "gently" and get a check from an orthopaedic consultant re cervical spondylosis (atrthritis of the neck) If the arm is painful on the outside of the upper arm when you raise it to shoulder height, or higher, it's a pretty safe bet, that it is the onset of a "frozen" shoulder. Which can be excruciatingly painful. So, don't delay in getting it seen to. Hope this helps.
