My dad has a torn ligament- how should we take care of him?

Question:
Please don't say to go to the hospital, he refuses to. Should we give him ice or what? Please help!

Answers:
If it's torn all the way through, he's going to be sorry if he doesn't get it repaired.

Otherwise, it will heal, but it might not be as good as new. Ice may help to reduce the pain, but the biggest thing will be keeping him from using whatever part the ligament is on. If it's in his leg, you'll need to wait on him, so he can stay off his feet as much as possible.

Once the healing is well underway, he should try to move the joint through its full range of movement, gently stretching against any stiffness or painful limits. This will help to keep the joint from freezing up.
a torn ligament, ouch:(my friend got one of those from football, that depends is it on his leg?if it is then he shouldn't walk, try and get him cruches.hope he gets better:)
plenty of rest and not working the ligement until its healed. keep iced or warm depends what is more comfortable.

1. meds! load him up /w ibeprofin or advil
2. Ice for 10 min, then heat for 10, and do that for an hour then stop then wait for another hour and start it up agian
3.make sure he STAYS OFF IT ! maybe to go to the bathroom er something personal like that but still let it rest.

Ouch I had one of those last year. The best thing to do is rest and keep all presure off of the leg just rest it and keep it elevated. Also ice packs feel good on it but dont keep it on longer than 20 min. Crutches would be a good idea for him if he does need to walk. I had to wear a leg brace off and on for 2 weeks it helped a little but not completely necessary.
Ice would be good.
Keep off it, using crutches, no walking, just sit around and relax.
Put a heating pack on it after 24-48 hours to speed healing.
Hi Kitty, I guess it's his leg you didn't say!! If so you will need to ice it for 20 minutes and have him stay off that leg for awhile. But if he torn his ligament he will have to have surgery to repair it. It won't fix it's self. Make an appointment for him to see is doctor and he should not be walking on his leg or putting any kind of weigh on it at all. He will have to see a doctor A.S.A.P.
