Nerves, will they ever grow back?
Question:
I fell in 2001 and bruised bone-- so afraid of falling and hitting it on something, afraid of bruise/breaking it again.
Answers:
Since it has been so long it is unlikely that the nerves are going to grow back. Have you worked with a neurologist or any other type of doctor? It may be a good idea to talk with your doctor about some type of treatment that possibly could be done to possibly help the nerves grow back if it's possible. There are nerve medications which could possibly help, but it would be a good idea to talk to your doctor, and hopefully there is something they can do. Good luck!
if they havent already they probably never will. at least you wont feel much
most nerves heal, but they need a certain protein called neuralema (or something like that). When your arms or legs fall asleep, it's actually because some nerves were damaged, but they quickly regenerate.
If the nerves haven't healed in 10 years, they most likely aren't going to.
Nerves do grow back, but they grow very slowly. There are different types of nerve damages it all depends the injury. They only grow about 1 mm per month, that is with the help of steroids such as predinsone. You should have saw your doctor back in 1997 because it may be to late to fix it now.
I don't think so, your probabilities are bad...
As two of the guys here pointed out, nerves do grow back but if they havent already, dont get your hopes up. Nerves grow back but at a very insignificant rate and that is with steroids. Even if you do get feeling back, it would take longer than 10 years.
If your nerves were going to heal, they would have done so within a year. That is typically how long nerves can take to fully heal after they have been severed in a surgical procedure. After 10 years, no I'm sorry, but that numbness in permanent.
