I don't think there's much you can do to prevent being tired in the afternoon while at work. One suggestion is to take a 1/2 hr walk during your lunch break. Or two 5-10 min breaks during the day. This should be able to help you out. Stay away from energy drinks and coffee, they're temporal.
There was an article on this on Yahoo! last week. It basically said keep away from starchy foods like pastas and breads and go for your natural sugars like fruit with your lunches. I have the same problem!
