I dislocated my knee exactly a week ago. It feels fine now and I took off the brace. Can I try to walk?

Question:
I know it's only been a week but there's absolutely no pain in my knee and I can actually bend it. I've put minimal pressure on it and it feels fine. Do you think 1st:I can take of my knee straightener (the brace) and 2nd: Can I try to walk. These crutches are a nightmare to me. Please help

Answers:
You should leave the brace on for at least a couple of weeks. When you have a dislocation like that - the ligaments and tendons that were stretched when you dislocated it need to heal, and if you don't let that happen, you will continue to dislocate it and have problems for a long time. We are doing surgery on a boy on Monday because for over a year he has been having the same knee dislocate over and over again and its because he kept taking his brace off and so we put him in a cast up to his thigh and he cut that off too, well now he is going to have surgery b/c he did not follow our advise and once those ligaments are stretched and healed in that stretched position there is no other option other than surgery.
If you are seeing a doctor you should follow his advise.
You need to stay in the knee immobilizer... whats a couple of weeks versus a couple of months if you have to have surgery.
tch. i hurt my knee a few months ago hurt like ...well it hurt pretty darn bad. Any ways i would keep the brace on! even if it doesnt hurt becaus every now and then my kneee hurts and i think maybe if i had kept the brace on even if it hadn't hurt. plus my sis hurt her knee and later on in life she had to have knee surgury. >.< hope this helps
If they had to reset the knee,I would wait at least 14 days before not using the brace with full weight. There is a real possibility of popping the joint back out. If they didn't have to reset the knee try it and see.If you have any pain at all do not put full weight on it and wait a few days to try it again.
