My mom is taking 3 60mg tablets of morphine daily. recently -running a fever -rashes on her legs?

Question:
she also has been muttering things that do not make sense. when we counted har medication the numbers say she has actually been taking approximetaly 10 and ahalf pills a day. we are very concerned. could she be overdosing.?

Answers:
Yes-she is in danger-her dementia is more than likely caused by over medicating and at those levels her heart and kidneys could shut down. You need to get her to her physician and tell him whats going on,also some one needs to monitor her medication.Giving it to her when it's due not letting her take it by herself. When in a state of confusion or dementia she can't remember taking her last dose and is over medicating herself to the point of physical danger.Don't neglect this seek help now!!
What is she taking it for--at least originally?

Yes, she is taking way too much. And those are the side-effects of too much opiates.

The normal dose is 1 every 4 hours. So, she is taking 6 more than she should. If the prescribed dose is not helping her pain, then she needs to call her doctor right away. There are other pain medications they can give her that will control her pain better.
You need to take her to the doctor or call an ambulance.
Umm by the sounds of it YES..get her some help!
She's taking so much medication it's like any other type of drug addict. it is possible that she is overdosing and going into a coma, that can account for the weird mutterings . I recommend you call her doctor immediately and explain what is going on.
Your mom needs some urgent medical attention.

If possible get her doctor to visit or take her along to the Emergency Dept at the local hospital.
The dosage you suspect she is taking is dangerous.

Hope she is ok

yes, i had morphine in hospital and got bad rash on legs / arms. nurse said that it was high dose and that is a sign / of to much/ allergy to it. they changed the med to another one and that worked for a day or so and then i started to get rash again. the pain relievers are hard on ones body but necessary. they gave me benedryl in an IV bag with the morphine and the dialudin ?? spelling. that helped clear up rashes. i would not take anything though without asking your doctor what is best for mum. it sounds like the medicine isn't working well enough. maybe they can give her some pills and some of the new pain patches to alternate so that her pain level isn't so high.
