No stitches?

Question:
Feel like an idiot asking this but, I sliced my finger wide open cannot afford to go to the doctor. and probably need stitches. I heard superglue works? any suggestions

Answers:
you typically only use super glue for more superficial cuts, not those that go full thickness. Would not reccoment it for a cut that was "wide open".

Most important thing is to clean the wound very well. Rinse with CLEAN water to get any debris out. Hold pressure to control bleeding. Take a piece of tape or tegaderm and cut yourself a "butterfly". this should look like 2 triangles with just their tops touching each other. You could say it looks like an hour glass shape. Basically, you place one of the triangles on on side of the wound and pull it tight across the wound and attached the other triangle to the opposite side of the wound. This helps hold the two sides closer together and allows them to heal better. When you are done, the wide parts should be on either side of the wound and the narrowest part should be over the wound.

WATCH FOR INFECTION! This could involve worsening pain, redness around the wound, pus or cloudy drainage from the wound, or red streaks extending from the wound up your arm. You CAN use so triple antibiotic ointment to help prevent the infection. Keep the wound dry and clean to facilitate healing. if you keep it under a bandage all teh time, your sweat will keep it wet and slow the healing process.

If you have any complications, i.e - continued bleeding, develope signs or symptoms of infection, failure of the wound to heal, etc. you should follow up with a doctor.

Good Luck
don't use super glue as the stuff in the glue can cause an infection. You might be able to wash it out with peroxide and take medical tape, around the cut and over the cut to hold it closed. If you have tegaderm tape that works best. good luck
Can you say SICKO !

Can't offer any advice, just sympathy.
No on the super glue, It might get infected and it WILL burn like hell. If you have to take care of it at home then clean it out with peroxide and then water,Dry it completely, Apply an antibiotic cream(neosporin type) and put a piece of gauze over it.

If you don't have Gauze then put a regular band-aid on it(pad part on the cut) and then bring a second band-aid around from the opposite site to "pull" the skin together.

I know you cannot afford to go to the Doctor, but if it is still bleeding or starts looking infected(red or oozing,) go to your nearest Emergency Room. They can't and won't refuse you treatment because you don't have the money.

Feel Better =)
