Question:
I will be entering school very soon for massage therapy, i dropped out of college in the past due to so much complication etc. now is my chance to go back and i will be attending a trade school that offers massage therapy and I will be getting my Massage therapy license after the 12-month program, At this time people are discourging me from this oppurtunity. I would like some feedback and i want to know if this is a good field to enter in? More feedback and opinons are highly appreciated. Thank You.

I am a female massage therapist but many of my friends are male massage therapists. Being a male massage therapist does have its challenges. Some men feel wierd about having another man touch them and some women are afraid for obvious reasons, especially if you consider the abuse statistics.
On the flip side, people sometimes request a male massage therapist because they think men can give stronger pressure during a massage (which is not nessecarily true, but works for men anyhow).
Some tips that I can offer are: definitely learn chair massage. It's much easier to get clients in a chair and it gives them a chance to see that you're not an ax murderer. Men are often employed in chiropractors offices and work with sports teams. Be impecable with your draping during massages and firm with your boundaries at all times. Be versatile and know several types of massage. Project a good image of being polite and trustworthy. Above all be patient! It will take time to get established, so you might want to keep another job, at least part time.
The best therapeutic massage I EVER had was from a man. He represented all of the above traits as well as having a gentle manner and genuinely caring attitude. If you love doing massage, you can absolutely do it! Best of luck to you.
well my male friend who has messages all the time wont go to a male. And me being a female not sure if I'd see a male but than sub conscience if I would even let a female. I guess it depends on the person but if you want to who cares what any of us say.
If you can do it and show everyone that you can make it all the way through, you can make a lot of money. There aren't many male massage theapists, and most women prefer men.
Maybe the people around you are just concerned that since you dropped out once, you'll drop out again.SHOW THEM ALL HOW SUCCESSFUL YOU CAN BE!!
watch a movie called Dead Poets Society, should help you out with your decision.
Massage therapy is a successful career for anyone who truly wants to be a healer, or anyone who enjoys the health field. If you care about your work, people will come to you regardless of age or gender.
Also, we draw to us patients/clients who are mirrors of us. You must be vigilant in absorbing your studies. Anatomy and Physiology is paramount. If you truly want to help people, then it doesn't matter who tells you "no you shouldn't"
