What type of doctor do I see for upper leg pain that goes to my knee?

Question:
The pain goes from right below my butt to my knee. It is mostly on the side and back of my left leg, and the back of my knee also hurts. It hurts more when I am sitting down. What type of doctor should I see?

Answers:
You should first see you family physician. They'll be able to direct you to the right specialist if needed.
There is no substitute for your family doctor. Your family doctor has the knowledge and resources to direct you to the proper specialist.
Seek a general doctor classified as a D.O. These doctors often have significant training in skeletal problems. The reason I state this is because it sounds like Sciatic Nerve pain.
This sounds like sciatica. Start with a neurologist.
A bone doctor, orthopedic I think they r called.
Orthopedic doctor. Thats what they treat (limbs, joints, etc)
Sure sounds like sciatic nerve pain. Stinks, doesn't it?
I see a sports doc for deep heat PT when mine starts up, but at home use heat packs at the top of the sciatic nerve ( bottom of your tail bone - pic link attached below... the heat helps a lot. Taking a hot bath once a day will do wonders.
