well I take percs and oxys too...
When I run out 3 days early every week im PISSED and I have to go buy from ppl I know....so sad.....but you def cant just quit them
If you can lock ur self away for 2-4 days in a room and suffer the awful withdrwals which im sure you alreayd know feel like....then do it...I HATE THEM--It kills me more than anything..which is why i take more and more.
But, if you feel you need help you can go to a methodone clinic and they will administer meth drinks DAILY for at least 6-12 months.
BUT THEN YOU ARE ADDICTED TO METH!!
So try to do it on your own if you need to get off.
Your liver will be damaged (later on in life like 10 years from now) if you are constantly taking. But for now, as long as you dont take too many at once you are ok.
Your doctr should wean you off if you are having prblems and its taking over your life.
If not, then he can give you a few for the severe pain you might have.
email me if you need im in the same boat kinda *addicted to pain killers)

Medically speaking, she shouldn't just "cut you off" because of the possible dangers from sudden withdrawal. Talk to your doctor and tell her that you want to quit the drugs, but you thing it would be better if you were weaned off of them slowly. She may or may not agree to this.
Hello,
Know DR. worth there salt would cut you off cold turkey. Did she give you any kind of warning ? There are many things they can give to make withdrawal easier. Its a very hard road. I am here if you need to chat. Go back to here and tell her your systems be demanding if you must. She will deal with you . Did you sign a pain contract?
A gradual weaning process would be easier on your system than an abrupt halt. You can most likely thank the current zero tolerance drug policy for your doctors current stance on the situation, it has gotten extremely hard, not just for chronic pain patients, but for most people in pain, to get appropriate pain treatment these days. Even terminally ill patients have been refused pain meds, because of the so called risk of them becoming addicted, and doctors have lost their licenses to practice because of their willingness to treat chronic pain patients with long term drug regimens.
A lot depends on why you were prescribed pain meds. Is this a chronic and/or degenerative condition, or is this something that could be expected to heal within a set time frame. Whatever the circumstance, you may want to consider a conference with your doctor, to discuss alternatives. You will either need other pain management methods, or you need to be checked to discover why you aren't healed yet. Either way, and/or if this has become a dependency problem, your health should be monitored while the oxycontin and oxycodone work their way out of your system.
In Theory no your Dr. Should not just cut you off without weaning you off of the medication. In my exeperience the reason why your Dr. has done this is because you have run out of the medication a week or more early for 2 months in a row. That is way to early for a physicians comfort. I assume the 5mg oxy was for breakthrough pain and just that alone is between 21-28 pills when you run out that early. The 20mg oxy is 14-18 pills when you run out early. That is alot of extra pills in a three week time. Im not saying you have a problem she may think that you do. If your system was getting used to them you should have let her know before it came to this. You should try talking this over with your Dr. to let her know that you are not abusing the medication but you have simply become tolerant to it and see what she says. She may be willing to ween you of it or bump up the dosage. Dr's have to be very careful with controlled substances or everything they have worked for could be gone in an instant.
My suggestion would be to have your doctor refer you to a pain mgnt Dr. They will help you ween you off the oxycontin. I know this because I myself was taking oxy for just under a years time for 2 major surgeries that wouldn't heal. I was finally referred to a pain mgnt office. Signed a contract, not to go and ask any other Dr's for pain meds, to pick up the prescriptions at one pharmacy and so on. You should get yourself weened off, its really not that hard to do if you put your mind to it. I actually did it within 2 weeks on my own. ( I moved out of state and was going to run out of pain meds) Every other day take one less than before. It was alot easier that I thought it would ever be. I thought my body needed to have it, thought I was going to be in pain. I kept thinking... "What if" I still have some, just in case. If you have any questions feel free to email me. Hope this helps.
Your doctor should tell you how to wean slowly off them to avoid major with drawl, and to avoid possibilities like seizures, and other problems from rapidly going off the medication.
Definitely something wrong with this picture. No doctor would just stop you from taking Oxycontin - if they have prescribed it for two years, they know you have to taper off.
You cannot go "cold turkey" on that drug. The withdrawal symptoms are to great.Make an appointment with your MD to start a new drug plan that can start you to wean off. There are other Rx's that can help.Even thought they are also controls like Suboxone and Xanax,Ativan ect. They can help reduce your withdrawal symptoms.Good luck and stay strong, call your MD and make that appointment.
I work in the ER and see people all of the time that are addicted to pain medication and I can tell you that this is NOT where you ever want to be. I would avoid a pain management doctor who will only make your addiction worse. I assume you and your doctor have discussed quitting, no more prescriptions, since she cut you off. Talk to your doctor about wanting to stop and try to work something out. The best advise I can give you is to stop taking them! It's only been two years, imagine how much more you'll be taking in 20. The withdrawal will suck, but it won't kill you.
