My friend's thumb has gone numb.. carpal tunnel?

Question:
yesterday my friend help put together a deck.. and still today about 20 hours later, his thumb is still numb. just the bottom of it (the pad pard, not the nail)

he said he read on google that carpal tunnel starts with numbness in the thumb...

anyone have any thoughts on this?!

could working on the deck have triggered the carpal tunnel? or did he damage nerves in his thumb? or is it just plain numb?

thanks everyone!

Answers:
yeah, sounds like carpal tunnel which is caused by any repetitive movement using the hands/fingers.

once he has stopped the repetitiveness, he'll be fine.
