What is a chartered physio?

Question:
My boyfriend is seeing a physio at work - not through referral, she is just a physio at his work place. She has a degree so she is qualified, but I find myself questioning her methods. My bf is very unhappy with me for feeling this way, he claims she has made a big difference - which cannot possibly true as he has only been twice, and has only done the exercises she's given him twice, he is saying that to shut me up, I know this. Her colleague is a member of the chartered physio thingy, and he's seeing her this week while the other one is away. What is the difference?

I know I'm not qualified to say whether or not a physio is any good, but I have a gut feeling with this one and I don't like it. He said he nearly knocked her over when she asked him to flex his hamstrings...that doesn't sound right to me. Amongst other things, eg, she keeps massaging his back, but it is a chronic injury and I'm not sure this will help long term. I hope the other is better.

Answers:
A chartered physio is a physio who pays money every year to join the chartered society of physiotherapy. It is not requirement in law to do this but its a bit like a union and info centre, she gets to call herself chartered and use some of the CSP's services such as advertisment. It doesn't make any difference to the qualification an any way and she is not necessarily any better than the other one you are worried about. One of my colleagues is a physio (private) and I can assure you that differences can be felt after one session, I have witnessed this for myself.

However... using the title of physiotherapist is now a protected title under law and anyone who wishes to practice as a physio should register with HPC who is the professional body. Please check out the link below, it tells you how to check if she is registered.

Try not to argue with your man over this, do you really want to risk damage to your relationship over something you cannot change?

From what I gather from you think she is trying to make a move. And from what I gather from your question.Hate to say it. probably is. I think all you can do is be as concious as possibel. Monitor the situation very closely. And if your at a point where your really uncomforting, get out, or really talk to this guy about whats going. And make a truly wise fully informed choice.

Best adive I have. Not too much relationships experience I have. HOPE I HELPED...some what!
