You can't get in trouble but you do need to tell your pain doc and your regular doc about all of this. THEY NEED TO be on the same page so to speak. Let your pain management doc know what med your regular doc gave you so she can discuss all of this with your regular doc.
Its good to make both doctors aware of what you area doing. Depending on the state you live in and the pharmacy sytem, the pharmacy WILL notifiy the doctor that you are getting more than one prescription.
It depends if you signed a contract with the pain doctor. Most pain managment doctors require a patient to sign a narcotics contract stating they will not get pain meds anywhere else but that doctor. I would talk to the pain dr. if I was you to get enough pain medication. I also would not fill the other prescription because in most states prescriptions for narcotics from different doctors in a certain time frame is illegal.
This is a tricky situation. Most pain management places have clauses in the paperwork stating that if you receive pain medicine from another doctor while under their care- you will be discharged from that program and most likely blacklisted. If you signed anything from the pain management clinic, i would read it over very carefully before filling the new script. I would be open and honest about it. Keep the communication open and both doctors will respect you for it. Chances are you will be able to get refills on your Rx then.
