I keep having a recuring dream and waking up at 3:24 am. So I'm not the best to answer but i've bene trying going to bed at different times, moving my clock so I can't see what time it is, and even moving rooms. It hasn't been helping though.good luck though!
dude, when you find out the answer let me know. Because i'm suffering from the same thing. Every night i wake up around 3 a.m. It's horrible. I've been taking sleeping pills when i absoultley have to.
Your behavior is normal. There are sleep cycles where you go from deep sleep to light sleep and then back to deep sleep. You are just waking up during your light sleep cycle. No big deal. I find those new space age foam mattress topping to be great. They make you so comfortable that you don't toss and turn which might help you get through those light sleep cycles without waking.
If you toss and turn go to a chiropractor and have your back adjusted. I used to toss and turn a lot until I got adjusted. I didn't know I had a back problem. The reason I tossed and turned was my body was trying to relax the muscles in my back which were tense because my back bone had lost some of its flexibility. When the chiropractor restored flexibility to my back I no longer needed to toss and turn and started to sleep much more soundly.
try excercising everyday
your body will b e tired and would like a long rest
watch tv before you sleep too or read a book
it'll make you more sleepy
and make sure your room is dark even wen its morning
Try to take a good multi-vitamin and -mineral. Eat at least three times a day with eating raw fruits, vegetables and salad along with lean meat. The green vegetables contain lots of magnesium, which will help sleep at night. And everything will be good for your heart.

You don't say when you go to bed and what kind of activities you do during the day, how old you are, what you eat. All of us experience some insomnia at one time or another, but it seems like it does inconvenience your schedule. It that is the case, I would go to a doctor and get a physical, blood test etc to see if there's anything physically wrong, and barring that try drinking Chamomile tea (herbal tea) at night - it helps come people calm down and fall asleep. If you're eating too close to bedtime, or drinking coffee/caffeine/sodas before bedtime could do it. Change your eating habits, and when you do go to bed, make sure it's not to watch tv or reading magazines, or playing games. That will keep you up. Short of that, it's worth a try.
If your schedule permits, try fixing your circadian rhythm by staying up for 24 hours. This should reset your sleep patterns. Worst case scenario, at least you sleep through ONE night, after being up that long. :)
