Question:
So I had surgery on a hernia this Wednesday and all went well. I started out on wednesday eating soups and crackers then thursday i had some more food. But I haven't went number 2 since maybe monday or tuesday. Ive been taking stool softeners but I just havent had the urge to go. Its now 5AM friday morning and im wondering if its ok to keep eating normally, and whether the stomach ache i have is from the pain pills or from not going. Can someone please tell me if this is normal to not have gone and whether I should keep eating ext. I appreciate any help and thanks!

My boyfriend, who is 42 yrs old had a hernia surgery not too long ago. He had the same problem. Are you taking Narcotic pain pills for the pain? If so, that could be the main problem! They cause constipation. Try drinking more water.
Pain pills also can cause the stomach discomfort/upset. Take them with food. Or try some rolaids after taking them.
Give it another day or two for the bowel movement. When you cut back on the pills, that will make things "move" along:)
Keep taking your laxative/stool softener. If it gets really bothersome, call the Dr. who did the surgery and get some advice.
