I cannot get swelling or colour right after having plaster cast taken off?

Question:
I had a broken toe but my foot is swollen and very discoloured

Answers:
You don't say how long it's been since the cast was removed but it's not unusual to experience slight discomfort and stiffness after the cast is removed. Your leg/foot may feel weak due to a loss of muscle tone caused by immobility. Some bruising may still be visible. It's normal to experience some slight swelling for some time after cast removal. Continue with the exercises the hospital would have given you. Try to keep your foot elevated whenever possible to help reduce swelling. If you experience any of the following, contact your fracture room a.s.a.p:
Increase in pain, increase in swelling, if your foot is or becomes cold (compared to your other foot), if your foot and toenails become blue or mottled in appearance or you experience numbness or prolonged 'pins and needles'.
What colour is your foot? Some swelling may still be inevitable and maybe some bruising. However if it is red, hot or blue and painful then i urge you to get a GP to take a look. Need to eradicate DVT. Decreased mobility and fractured bones does increase risks of a thrombosis.
First off all swelling is normal once the cast is off or on so dont worry about this, the swelling will go down in time plenty off rest and elevation off the foot will help, you mentioned the colour if its bruising this is normal too this will fade in time,if the colour is red and warm/hot then you may have an infection you need to see your gp about this asap, get this checked out it maybe be nothing but then it maybe something serious.Good Luck
