I have an appt coming and I will be given valium, how long do i have to wait to drive?
Question:

Valium makes you very, very, very VERY sleepy! You could fall asleep driving. That is why you shouldn't drive. If you got in an accident you would be charged with driving under the influence. If this is for a dentist appointment then you really should have someone take you. It may take quite a few hours for you not to be so sleepy. Maybe up to 6-8 hours. It is a liability for the doctor to allow you to drive away from his office knowing you have taken Valium. You could sue him or the person you get in an accident with could do so as well. He could reject doing treatment on you and that would be that.
I don't think you want to wait in the office around 6-8 hours. That is IF you don't have the drowsy after effects. Some people who take it to sleep wake up after 8 hours and are still drowsy and out of it. So consider this carefully! I wouldn't do it. ESPECIALLY if you have never taken it!
This is a very easy question to answer. You`re doctor is absolutely right. DO NOT DRIVE YOUR CAR TO A MEETING WITH VALIUM! This is a very powerful drug which affects different people in different ways. Nobody can tell you how it will affect YOU. It all depends on your own personal metabolism. If you don`t have someone to drive you there, then take a cab, a bus, or some other means of transport. As for how long you should wait to drive, the answer is .... as soon as you start feeling like "crap" again !
