Can methadone be used to facilitate someone obtain past its sell-by date stomach-ache pills, how does it work if methadone is also used for backache?

My fiance is addicted to pain pills. We hold talked something like getting her some help from a methadone clinic. I own researched methadone, and from what I am seeing, some people use methadone for backache relief, and some folks have even gotten addicted to it. How is this helping a character who is trying to get past its sell-by date pain pills, if their taking something that they could also catch addicted to?

it doesnt methadone is purely a more controlled drug, but like next to heroine users, its still an addiction, they just arent on the heroine.
