Should I give him one cigarette?

I think you should keep them away from your dad. He's trying to overcome an addiction and if you give him a smoke, you're enabling him. (See my fancy terminology from Intervention! lol)
Seriously, I have two suggestions... one is that if your dad likes cinnamon, get him a couple of cinnamon sticks ( in the spice aisle at the grocery store) and tell him to use it for his oral fixation. I had a co-worker who used this method to kick her habit and she hasn't smoked in about a year. The other suggestion is to give him baby carrots or carrot sticks to fiddle with and chew. When you think about it, the cinnamon sticks and carrot sticks are about the size of a cigarette, so they'll help with the oral fixation. Good luck to him and to you! =)
if you give him one, then he will be smoking for the rest of his life. its for his health, he needs to stop smoking now. the first few days are the worst and after that it will get better. stand strong and good luck
If he smokes 2 a day, that is not quitting. It will be easier to go back to his normal smoking habits.
You did the right thing! Cold turkey is the way to go.
Cold turkey! My Dad had congestive heart failure and emphysema and also on oxygen. I found out he had them hid under his mattress and was still smoking. They will tell you anything it is a bad addiction. By the way he is dead now for several yrs.
he'll probably just go out and get another pack ... sometimes you just have to wean off, if it's one a day well it's not great but not awful ... maybe in a short time you can convince him to try to skip a day ... it's pretty much what my husband did .. he got to one smoke once a week on card night and then realized it was ridiculous to continue that way. I hope he quits because it also makes a difference in heal time if he ever has to go through a surgery. good luck to all
I don't know that is tough. Do you think he wants your help? My parents would of been angry from me doing this, I know because when I was younger (before I started myself) I used to hide theirs.
It probably is better to quit cold turkey but I will tell you the best way to quit is to do it by yourself cold turkey or inhaler or whatever, unless he has asked you for help. I quit before Thanksgiving (used Chantix pill-awesome by the way) and I did it for me with that drive to want to do it. You have to want to quit no matter how many doctors tell you too, believe me I have seen it many times. It sucks to smoke but try to understand it is a nasty drug and it is sooooo hard to quit. Be proud of your Dad is trying to quit and just be there for him and do that no matter how many times he tries to quit, in case it doesn't work this time-I hope it does of course though.
Like I said unless he asked you to "Let" him have them than just let him be and try to encourage him in a positive way though. Good luck to your Dad because it is great to be a non-smoker again and I hope he can join the club too.
P.S. I have a lot of family who still smoke and we have had some who we have sadly lost to emphysema and they have seen them suffer too but like I said you still have to want it for yourself. If he has no luck with these methods you should have him ask his doc about Chantix and if it could be right for him.
no don't let him have one. keep stealing the packs, too. eventually he will give up.
Cold Turkey!
Personally I say cold turkey. But just know that If you find a pacl, confront him about it and he does stick much a fight, there's more to be found my friend!
NO!...lol it's bad for your health and he's gonna have to quit so it should be hard the first time around so he remembers how hard he worked to quit.if you love him don't!
Cold turkey. Don't give him any.
