It takes many different modalities to achieve pain relief with Fibromyalgia. Medication, deep tissue massage therapy, relaxation techniques, natural supplements and chiropractic care.

Yoga, and breathing exercises combined with a low-stress life and properly managed pain medication. My doctor has me doing yoga, but I also have pain meds. The thing with fribromyalgia is that the more stressed out you get, the more it hurts, so it's also good to have a muscle relaxer, although the body can sometimes override that, too. The absolute best thing that I've found is to be as stress-free as possible. Even if that means taking time out from most of life until the pain is under control, it really works. Then, take your meds, do your yoga, and find ways to calm yourself in a potentially stressful situation.

I agree with the others who have recommended a multi-modality approach - what's "best" for one person may not work at all for someone else.

You might need to try a number of different things before you find something that works for you. And even then, that thing might not work consistently, or in all cases. If you have the opportunity, it might be worthwhile consulting a chronic pain clinic where you can expose yourself to various pain management approaches. Once you find out what works for you, you then have some tools that you can use depending on the degree of pain or discomfort you're feeling on any particular day.

What works for me is a combination of prescription pain medication, hydrotherapy/hot baths, Pilates, massage, and biofeedback.

Best of luck to you -
