Im having my gallbladder taken out!?
Question:
Answers:
My sister had hers out at 22, the surgery lasted 3 hours, and she was basically recovered in a week. Four small incisions that don't even show a scar.
It's not uncommon, but the majority of the time its elderly people. But I have had mine out, and its not too bad. I took only a week and a half off of work to recover. Mine was really bad too, so it just depends. My surgery lasted only about 4 hours. Its nothing to worry about, its a very common and easy surgery.
I was about your age when mine was removed. If you have any questions I'd ask your dr. or a nurse. Mine was so long ago now they do it laproscopily and your down time is not that long. You'll really feel better when it's over
if you are having the gallbladder removed laparoscopically, it's a breeze--my husband had his out last month and we were in the hospital a TOTAL of 4 hours--that included pre-op check-in and post-op recovery. He went to work the next day and has felt fine (actually better!!) ever since...good luck and try not to worry!
It is not unusual. People of all ages have this happen. The surgery is quick and rather painless. If you are having it done laproscopically you feel fine in a couple of days but will be adviced to take it easy for about six weeks. If you have it the old fashioned way it is a bit uncomfortable and the recovery time is a bit longer. Remember, once it is done you still have to be careful with what you eat, take it slow.
I know it's normal to be nervous, but try to relax. Having problems with your gallbladder is not age-specific. I had mine removed when I was 27. Also, a co-worker of mine just had gallbladder surgery (cholecystectomy) recently and she is 24. When you have your surgery it will more than likely be outpatient and you will go home the same day. the first couple of days will be kind of painful, but you will get meds for that. I was back to work in 10 days, on a very physical job. The main thing is to stay calm. you will feel much better after you recover from the surgery, believe me (see my source)
my father had his gall bladder removed. what i remember from that is he had a choice to either get a big incision in his stomach or 5 small incisions to get the stones removed. and i remember him being in the hospital for a little while. thats all i remember
sorry i couldn't be more of a help
I had my gallbladder removed at about your age, as did my sis, 2 grandmas and cousin. I am overweight, but none of them are. It's a relatively simple procedure with the average possibility for complications, which is pretty low. It's an outpatient procedure which usually means you'll go home the same day or next day with the surgery taking a couple hours. You'll be sore for a few days at the incision sites and in your chest from the gas they put in you for the surgery, but you can take meds for the pain. I can pretty much eat whatever I want now, but greasy foods can sometimes make my stomach feel icky. Good luck and I'm sure you'll do fine.
Gallbladder problems can occur at any age. Before surgery the only thing you can do is the day of surgery go ahead and bathe but don't put on any lotions, creams, perfumes or makeup. Also take off all of your jewlery. You probably with be having orthoscopic surgery (the methods where they make 3 small holes instead of an incision). You should expect a 1-2 week recovery time, it they make an actual incision your recovery will be 2-3 weeks. I have had similar surgery and only need to take perscribtion pain meds for only 3-4 days, then Motrin did the trick.
Sure do.Had mine out ten years ago. (Just a note here, alot of women for some reason lose theirs shortly after birth...have you given birth in the last year?..just a thought with your age. For some reason, this happens alot.) Anyways, your gonna feel alot better. The normal lazer one is much faster. Under an hour. They started with the lazer for me, and something ruptured, so they had to switch and do the old fashioned one where they cut you open. That wound up being hours because of my rupture. So, I have both scars. The big one, and the ones on the belly botton. If you have the lazer, it's two teeny tiny cuts on the outline hole of your belly button. Believe it or not, those hurt worse healing up than the big (7 inches, I measured) cut did. (I weighed about 110 at the time..so I was really skinny with a big scar.) When you go to set up, it's gonna hurt like heck. Take a pillow and hold it on your stomic. For some odd reason, that helps with the pain ALOT! Don't know why, it just does. It took me about 2 or 3 weeks to get back to relatively normal. But I had both surgeries, so. As for eating. Your gonna find that some food you have eaten all your life will upset your stomic now. It is best to keep a log of what you eat. And "IF" you get a super bad stomic ache, don't eat that food again. I only found 2 foods that upset me. But, it took me 3 weeks to figure this out. With alot of pain. Wish someone had told me this. Foods like pizza, cheese, doritos.hard to digest things in other words, should be avoided the first few weeks. Then, you should be fine. I ate alot of tuna and crackers at first. (Just because I like that, and was happy to eat it over and over for awhile.) I just tried to eat really light. Jello, pudding, applesauce..just be careful and keep a list of what you are eating. Trust me...the stomic ache hurts worse than the pain from the bad gallbladder. They won't let you leave the hospital untill you poop also. Well, that is because I was in for a bit with the old fashioned surgery. I'v heard if you just have the lazer, your out the same day. Don't really know for sure on that though as I didn't have that. Other than that, I think that about covers what I can remember right now. Hope this helps. Good luck. Chill out, it's really not that bad. When they say to count to knock you out, it will be over before you know it! That stuff works fast.
