What does a "denervated muscle" mean?

Question:

Answers:
This means that the muscle is no longer receiving input from a motor nerve. This usually results in some type of weakness of the muscle.

This might be a result of an EMG test.
It means that the muscle is no longer getting the signal that it should from the nerve that supplies it. Symptoms that result can be numbness and/or weakness and eventually, atrophy (the muscle gets smaller).

Denervation can be caused by pressure on the nerve, disease, or in some cases procedures are done to cut or kill a nerve if it is causing severe pain.
