Answers:
Sure. I had my tonsillectomy & adenoidectomy last November. They'll prep you and the then they'll say if you have any questions. Feel free to ask. I was fine but I got nervous and asked how it felt. Nothing to worry about. What I can say is when you wake up you might start coughing alot. Try not to as it may result in you throwing up. They'll give you water with ice and the nurse might ask you to chew the ice slowly. Then they might even offer you a frozen treat. Eat slow. Swallow carefully. I'm going to say the truth. It hurts like rotten when you swallow and will so for about 4-7 days. You prorably will throw up even if you don't cough after a few hours when the blood that went down your throat makes you sick. Try having a plastic bag or a trash can near you at all times. Funny because I didn't spend the night in the hospital. It took about 30 minutes for the operation. I was out in about 3 hours.

Try eating the soonest you can (normal food) I started about the 4th day. It sucks when you swallow but it will heal you faster if you eat regular after 4-6 days. Try eating alot of frozen pops and gurguling with water an salt it will heal alot sooner since you are older. I was 18 when they were taken out.

Stay away from people for the following 2 weeks. They can actually make you sick since you are prone fromt he open site.

The part that sucks more than the swallowing is the scabs (the STINKING REEKING) scabs that will form in the part where your tonsils used to be. Gosh they really smell horrible. Hope in your case they fall off soon. Mine fell off after about 2 weeks. In "average" cases they fall of between 5-10 days at the most. Really wish you are the lucky one.

I had tonsil stones and kept getting sick so my DR. decided to take them out and my adenoids too.

Hope this helps.

(Oh also you will notice your uvula will be very swollen I kept chocking on mine because it was so enlarged so don't freak out or worry =•] )
First they'll do the admitting procedure, etc. Then they'll take you and prep you for surgery (assuming you'll be anesthetised). Then they'll "put you to sleep, do the procedure and take you to the recovery room/your room for the next day. There's nothing to be afraid of. It's a simple procedure. It will be the best sleep you've had in a while. Also you get all the ice cream you want.
