How did you stop your cheek biting habit?

i found that a good sugar free (so your teeth don't fall out) mint or candy works well...
I am over 60 yrs old. I have been cheek and lip biting since I was a very young girl. I don't know why. It is painful, it looks bad and I frequently go to a hiding place so I can do it. My jaws hurt. My cheeks and lips heal overnight easily, but first thing in the morning I start all over again. I don't even realize I am doing it, until I have gone too far and they bleed. I have read many answers from others, and the best advice I see is where it says chew gum. I do this sometimes and it does help. I am not nervous or stressed. It's just a bad habit. If you are young, try to stop it now. It will be hard work.
