MS Contin vs Oxycontin?

From a provider view point, you do not want to ask for narcotics by name. It looks bad and leaves room for suspision. From a patient veiw point, you dont want to say nothing at all. As far as the two drugs, they are in the same class, kind of like two middlewieghts in boxing. You want a heavy weight... So to ask for the drug by name and getting it, you might be selling yourself short. I would advise you to sit down with your doctor at your next appointment and ask what kind of options there are for your type of back pain. Ask him if you could have something more effective. If he looks at you like you have a penis growing out your ear, tell him you just want to have wild passionate sex with your wife and its getting really hard because of the pain. That will fluster most doctors or make them more compasionate. Either way, you will get what you want. which is better treatment.
There's no reason you should feel you can't mention it to your doctor. It's a perfectly valid question. It sounds like you've developed some tolerence to the MS Contin, which is natural so possibly your dose just needs to be adjusted.
I've been taking MS Contin and just recently my dose was bumped up a bit because it wasn't helping as much.
If he knows your condition then it should really not be a problem!
My doctor recently put me on oxycontin which at first really knocked me for a loop, but I was taking 6-8 percocet before that.Maybe instead of upping your dose of morphine you may need a back up like percocet for those times your morphine does not do the trick. My husband is on Morphine for which he has 15 extra each mouth as back up along with Percocet, and 2400 mg Nerotin total for the day. This is all for his spinal stenosis.Mine is for 2 herniated discs, and we are both well aware how hard it is to get your pain under control,we have both been thru the gammit as far as treatment for it too.I do not see either one of us getting off our pain meds ever, some days are better then others but you will never be pain free my freind.
Oxycontin works waaay better than morphine, its less addicting too, i have had them both and trust me pal oxycontin is the better choice
