Can the herniated L4 and L5 disks be safely massaged?

Question:
the two disks are irritating the sciatic nerve.

Answers:
Yes, very carefully. But you need to go to a massage therapist that is knowledgable. Sciatic nerve massage would also help (actually in the buttocks area) Your therapist would know how to do this...
yes the can and heat messages as well. I have a cyst between my L4 and L5 and I do, I suggest going to a physical therapist. I highly suggest a series of spinal injections, but they are not epidurals got to a good orthopedic doctor. I feel and know what kind of pain you deal with. since I had my injections I have been pain free for 7 years. good luck
i would strongly disagree with taking a spinal injection. the cortisone/steroid shot causes the muscle to become stronger and your vertebra's to become brittle, ultimately limiting what surgical options you have if there comes a point in time that you do surgery.I refused the shots and had 2 artificial discs put in my back to replace the 2 herniated discs i had.i suffered needlessly for 10 yrs. i went here to get the procedure performed .300 other Americans went b4 me.I'm 2 yrs post-op and have a very active and physical life style.good luck.
