I currently have a fever and no other symptoms. Should I be worried and go to emergency?

Question:
Also three months ago I got stitches in my belly button and one was able to come loose except one. it looked like a small tiny stitch visible in the beginning but it was impossible to remove. I went to the e.r and even the oncall surgeons couldnt take it out. I got this done in mexico by a well known doctor on the board of surguens list. when I called him he said that eventually It will fall out but today it was red all around and my skin appears to have healed over the stitch. What should I do? anyone that can help it would be appreciated
p.s my fever is 101.7 ferenheit

Answers:
101.7 is high for an adult. A fever is the first sign of infection because your white blood cells are going to that area to try and rid the body of the infection. that's why the area is so red. Don't play games with your body. It's a wonderful mechanism for letting us know when something is wrong. I don't want to put down any MD because he is in Mexico, but he should have told you to have it looked at. He didn't see what it looks like, so you really need to see a doc.
Sometimes you may have to help it out. If it's red and you are having a low grade fever it could mean infection. See your healthcare provider.
