For people with Migraines...?

Question:
I am desperate to find something that works. It seems like the longer I take my medication (imitrex) the less effective it becomes. What works for you?

Answers:
try and keep a journel of when, where , what lead up to the headache

there are MANY migraine triggers some not so well known. try and avoid anything you think might be triggering them. somethings you cannot control (weather, others perfumes, etc.)

i started with imitrex and i too have no relief from it. sounds like you might take it ALOT and im sure that is not helping any. talk to your dr about starting a preventative medication to be taken daily to try and lessen the number and severity. i have been on preventatives for over 9 years and it improved my life dramatically. i have fewer "breakthru" migraines and when they do breakthru, they are not as severe. there are many abortive medications (imitrex, zomig, replax, maxalt) ask the dr to switch your medications and see if that helps,.
Never found anything that stoped them. I've been limited to using enough pain killer to work at a functional level for a few years now
Keep a headache journal and find your triggers and then avoid them. Plain old Excedrin works for me. I am on a beta-blocker for my blood pressure and it can help prevent migraines but has a possible side effect of decrease libido.
Imitrex is used after the migraine is there. There are drugs used to prevent the problem. Topamax and Inderal are the two that I am on. My migraines are much better and I take Imitrex much less these days since I got my prescription sunglasses.
How often are u getting migraines? I use to get them on a daily basis I tried every medication on the market and soon found myself on narcotics which isnt good, and even did the botox injections
you need to keep a migraine diary so you can kind of tell what is causing your migraines, ever heard of rebound migraines? the more meds you take can cause rebounds, i havent been on meds in over 3 yrs and have only had 1 migraine since i STOP TAKING all medications.
My migraines began during my pregnancy with my son.
I do understand how you feel been there done that, but you have to ask yourself what is best for you.
Maybe flushing your body out( stop the medications and work through your migraines without meds) with the help of your dr may help lesson them.

Good luck!!
Feel better soon.
I've suffered from migraines all my life. I, too, have had the same problem with imitrex. I know that for some sufferers there is no one magic pill or fix. Believe it or not, Excedrin Migraine with a Coke or Mountain Dew knocks off my migraines. The problem, however, is that I am extremely shaky after the fix. I'd rather be shaky, however, than lying in a darkened room...or worse, on the bathroom floor vomiting. After all of the different pills and things doctors have offered, this, for me, works the best. If I am able to catch the migraine early on, this method works about 80% of the time. I hope this helps some.
I have been taking Propranolol for 3+ years and my incidence of migraines has slowed to an almost halt. I do still get the auras and disturbed vision symptoms but the headaches rarely if ever follow.

The symptoms I can live with, the headaches I can't

Propranolol is a beta blocker and may not work well for some...only your dr will be able to tell you if it will work for you. I wish you nothing but the best hon...migraines are hell on earth!
thats the same thing that happened to me when i was taking imitrex

my doctor gave me relpax abd my migraine went away and didnt come back
